在典禮上，卡特展示了自己的名人堂夾克。值得注意的是，卡特在夾克的內襯上添加了自己所效力過的高中（佛羅理達代頓海灘大陸高中）、大學（北卡羅來納大學）、NBA球隊和美國男籃國家隊的Logo。
1998年，卡特在首輪第5順位被猛龍選中，職業生涯曾先后效力于猛龍、籃網、魔術、太陽、獨行俠、灰熊、國王和老鷹。2000年，卡特入選美國男籃國家隊，并幫助球隊奪得悉尼奧運會金牌。
